Trans Global Projects successfully led project logistics management for a shipment to the British Antarctic Survey’s Rothera Research Station.

FACTS & FIGURES

Timeframe
October 2018 to January 2019: The ship departed Teesside at the end of November and arrived in Rothera at the end of December 2018. Discharge was completed at the beginning of January 2019.

Route
Teesside, UK, to Rothera Point, Antarctica: the British Antarctic Survey’s (BAS) Rothera Research Station is located on Adelaide Island off the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula – a 9,600-mile route overall.

Client
BAM, a global construction and civil engineering firm; and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS).

Transport
A F-Type multipurpose ship geared with two 125 mt cranes combinable to lift up to 250 mt and featuring a Polar Class PC7 certification (which corresponds to
Finnish-Swedish lce Class 1A).

The Cargo
Overall, 13,000 cbm and 85 containers of cargo were prepared and loaded onto the ship. The largest pieces were two 300-tonne crawler crane cabs.

SYNOPSIS

As a globally recognised expert in biosecurity logistics, TGP was commissioned to lead logistics and ensure full biosecurity regulatory compliance for a shipment to Antarctica in autumn and winter 2018/19. The cargo, comprised of construction materials and equipment.
